Realization of the project ’’Museums in Motion’’ started with the press conference at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska, which was attended by Siniša Šešum, Director of UNESCO BiH Office, Sarita Vujković, PhD and Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska, Mirsad Sijarić, PhD and Director of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the curators of these two museums, Mladen Banjac and Samir Avdić, with the presence of directors of elementary schools, teachers and students.

The holder of the project "Museums in Motion" is the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska, and the aim of the project is the improvement of the quality of educational collaboration between the museum institutions and elementary schools in 28 municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it is being implemented under the auspices of the UNESCO Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the project partner is the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The project ‘’Museums in Motion’’ will include a series of organized visits to museums in the municipalities prescribed by the project call, in which elementary school students will be introduced to the work of these museum institutions through twenty or more educational workshops that will be conducted by museum curators and educators, their role and significance in society as well as collections which are being kept in these two museum institutions.

Over the past 20 years, museums in local communities have been facing existential problems that result in the lack of quality of service and educational collaboration with elementary schools. On this basis, there is a decline in the quality of education and the lack of knowledge of the cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina when it comes to elementary school students. The task of the project ‘’Museums in Motion’’ is to correct this situation.

The first phase of the project was realized in the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska, with a special educational programme in which sixth and seventh-grade students from four elementary schools in Banja Luka participated (Elementary School "Ivo Andrić", E.S. "Branko Ćopić", E.S. " Jovan Jovanović Zmaj " and E.S. "Aleksa Šantić").

During the duration of the educational programme, students had the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of the museums and to visit the exhibition "Perceptions: The Beauty of a Flower Is in the Picking", where they were given a special guided tour through the exhibition. After touring the museum, the students participated in an interactive quiz in the field of fine arts with the curators of the museum and Banja Luka’s actor Duško Mazalica. Our elementary school students showed an enviable knowledge in the field of fine arts, and after two semifinals and uncertain competition in the finale, the students of the "Jovan Jovanović Zmaj" Elementary School, who won valuable prizes and a trophy, took the victory.

The project ‘’Museums in Motion’’ is being implemented in collaboration with the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, under the auspices of the UNESCO Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project is being implemented within the project "Dialogue for the Future: Towards a more just society: Promoting social cohesion and diversity in Bosnia and Herzegovina", implemented by UNESCO, UNDP and UNICEF in partnership with the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The "Dialogue for the Future" project is funded by the United Nations Peace Building Facility/ Peace Building Facility (PBF).
