The Trust for Mutual Understanding (TMU) foundation was established in 1984 with the goal of promoting communication, understanding and cooperation between artists from the United States, Central and Eastern Europe and Russia through international exchanges in the field of art.
The mission of the foundation is to enable young talented artists from different countries to come together in one place, feel free to share ideas and stimulate creativity in a non-political context.
TMU awards grants to non-profit organisations, as is the case with the Zvono Award for the best young visual artist in Bosnia and Herzegovina, awarded by the Centre for Contemporary Art in Sarajevo in cooperation with MSURS.
Besides presenting the mission and vision of TMU, Director Barbara Lanciers and Assistant Manager Alina Enggist spoke to the attending artists and students and offered them some practical advice on the possibilities of their appearance on the international scene and provided them with a list of organisations that support artist exchange and independent art projects.
