Four foreign students (Albina Tzintoli, Greece; Stratoula Skiadelli, Greece; Tuly Lavorsky, Brazil; Daria Piekutien, Poland) volunteered at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska, as part of the “RevolutiON" volunteering programme organised by AIESEC.
This was the first time a programme of this kind was implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the aim of familiarising young people with culture and art and maximising their engagement in this field. Several cultural institutions from Banja Luka were involved in the project and made its implementation possible. The volunteers, who are preparing for different careers (marketing in culture, photography, design), spent four weeks at MSURS, which was plenty of time for them to learn about the work and activities of the different museum departments, take part in the staging of the events accompanying the exhibition “Belgrade by Jovan Bijelić", and exchange creative ideas about future projects. At the end of their stay the volunteers framed a concept of a marketing strategy for MSURS and made proposals, based on their knowledge and experience, on how to improve the promotion of culture institutions to draw attention to their work and importance.
This was not the first time the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska had collaborated with organisations working in the field of volunteering practice. In 2011, Yunya Liu, a Chinese student, volunteered with the Museum, and in 2012, Sunčica Štrkić, a student of the University of Texas, did her internship with MSURS. In 2014, MSURS and the Banja Luka Gymnasium signed a cooperation agreement, which allows the students of this school to volunteer in MSURS projects.
