The creative workshop "Asking and Questioning" accompanied the Sigmar Polke exhibition "Music from an Unknown Source". This one-day workshop was aimed at secondary school and university students interested in questioning and analysing the meaning of Sigmar Polke’s works shown in the exhibition through theoretical and practical exercises, so as to put new interpretations on the art of this great European and world artist.

The creative workshop was inspired by the very nature of Polke’s artwork, which has shown to be material for unlimited questioning of that which is perceived and allows a range of possible readings, defying an unequivocal, final interpretation. The workshop participants were invited to enter into a dialogue with Polke’s oeuvre and jointly start a process during which they would engage in writing and/or drawing, and so convey their impressions and considerations on this kind of art.

The products of this creative process were presented in the exhibition, becoming possible interpretations and inspiring the audience and Museum visitors to continue analysing Polke’s artwork.

Moderator: Wiebke Trunk, professor of art history, Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg

The workshop was held in cooperation with the Goethe Institute in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
