The event that marked the seventh consecutive celebration of the European Night of Museums by the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska was the exhibition “Microstories – Contemporary Female Art and Its Post-2000 Contexts”, which showed the works of four female artists from Banja Luka (Sаndrа Dukić, Mаrgаretа Kern, Irmа Mаrkulin and Borjаnа Mrđа).
The exhibition was meant to problematise the context of gender identity policies as found in contemporary female art. The selected artists have a heightened sensitivity towards micro-community, empathy and emotional engagement, that is, a propensity to handle small things with gentleness and intimacy, which may be a special quality of the female being. Their immediate reactions, actions and dealing on the spot, their sense of responsibility – it all paves the way for the aesthetics of “little storiesˮ, i.e. microstories.
The Night of Museums programme included a performance by the RACE Art Group (Zorаn Crnčević and Nebojšа Đumić), “A Book for Dinner”, which was held at the Music Pavilion in Petаr Kočić Park. The performance was based on the idea of visitors bringing one or more books and receiving a helping of roast meat in return. The barter exchange in which roast meat was given in return for a book/books allowed the participants to symbolically exchange cultural heritage for something that would meet their daily food needs, which made the character of this event global.
The music part of the night included a concert of the band Lollobrigida and DJ set Marie Cherie held in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska.
