The exhibition "Art and Its Context(s)" is the result of an artist-in-residence project of the same name run at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska, a fruit of the joint efforts of MSURS, the Goethе-Institut and the Institut Français in Bosnia and Herzegovina to develop close intercultural relations between the countries represented by these institutions and to create the necessary conditions for the connection and interaction of their contemporary artists.

In the period 19 November until 10 December 2009, Banja Luka hosted artists Andrea Diefenbach and Felix Baltzer (Germany) and François Génot and Mathieu Boisadan (France). Guided by a previously selected title, which served as a broad flexible thematic framework for their upcoming work, the participating artists found their individual ways to experience, over a relatively short period of time, an environment that to them was completely new and unfamiliar, and visually express this experience.

"Art and Its Context(s)" is the first project of its kind run at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska. The organisation and successful implementation of the project confirmed the status of artist-in-residence projects as a fruitful and popular mode of international artist exchange.

Project curator: Mr.Sc. Sarita Vujković

The project was carried out in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut and the Institut Français in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The authors of the texts published in the exhibition catalogue are Dunja Blažević (Sarajevo Centre for Contemporary Art) and Žana Vukičević (Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska).
