The exhibition “A Changeable Body” is a selection of works by the Banja Luka-based artist Borjаna Mrđa that includes paintings, drawings, photographs, installations and videos.

Borjаnа Mrđа developed as an artist in the post-war and post-transition Republic of Srpska. Her work reveals her ability to be very open about her privacy, rites of passage and family surroundings, and her readiness to critically confront the past, identity and the reality she lives in. Connecting geographical space, the linguistic context, family and interpersonal relations and gender differences in circumstances of the ever-intensifying exploitation of sexuality by the media with contrasting viewpoints on issues of her own habitus constitutes the key discourse of Borjana’s artistic practice.

The themes commonly found in Borjаna Mrđa’s work are memory and remembrance, as located in the space between the coordinates of socio-political, cultural, national-ethical and other daily changes. Their observation and definition is present to the extent they do not lose their primary sense, but stay identified as an instrument of the measure of the artist’s efforts to decode the real world that surrounds her.
