With this exhibition the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska commemorated 70 years since the death of the great Serbian painter Sаva Šumаnović.

The MSURS show combined two projects of the Sаva Šumаnović Gallery in Šid, “The Final Ten Years” (аuthors: Vesnа Burojević and Ljubicа Jukić) and “Sаvа Šumаnović, Personally, Familially, Nationally” (аuthor: Rаdovаn Sremаc).

The show included a selection of paintings by Sаva Šumаnović made during the last ten years of his life, which also belong to his most mature series. The motifs most often found in these works are nudes and landscapes, among which the finest “Ruthenian Women”, “Dallying in the Moonlight”, “Model at the Studio” and “Portrait of a Girl in a White Dress”, as well as still life motifs. Šumаnović’s landscapes confirm he was our greatest painter of colour and light, and a part of his well-known series of paintings showing women bathers from Šid, “Women from Šid”, that he was the painter behind a conceptully isolated phenomenon in Serbian art in that period.

The second part of the Banja Luka exhibition, “Sаvа Šumаnović, Personally, Familially, Nationally”, is documentary and is on the subject of Sаva Šumаnović’s roots and family background. The “Sаvа Šumаnovićˮ Painting Gallery put on this exhibition in Jаnuаry 2012 to celebrate the 60th anniversary since its opening.
