The exhibition “RETROSPECTRUM – The Permanent Exhibition of the Art Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tour” includes a selection of the finest works from the collection of the Sarajevo Art Gallery,

created over a period of four centuries, geographically indeterminate, stylistically heterogeneous and split into twelve groups according to the dominant colour. Thus, a very simple concept underlies the exhibition: the artworks were selected based on the colour that dominates in them, and accordingly arranged into groups or modules.

As we go through the modules on display, we come to the conclusion every colour has a character of its own, and even though each exhibition room contains works executed using different media by artists from different generations, each in his or her own distinctive style, they can all be characterised using one or more associated attributes. Thus, the colour of yellow emanates energy; red emanates domination; green – alleviation; orange – warmth; brown – predictability; pink – tenderness; gold – power; the colour of purple has in it subsidence;blue is ruled by the rational; etc.

The exhibition includes more than 80 paintings, prints and photo objects by such distinguished artists as Vlаho Bukovac, Pаja Jovаnović, Edo Murtić, Vojo Dimitrijević, Romаn Petrović, Roy Lichtenstein, Gаbrijel Jurkić, Jusuf Hаdžifejzović, Brаco Dimitrijević, and others
