The curatorial concept behind the project “I Can Be Outrageously Patient“ shines the spotlight on the latest art practices prevailing on the contemporary art scene of the Republic of Srpska.

The following artists participated in the show: Borjаnа Mrđа, Irenа Slаdoje, Viktorijа Bаndа, Milа Pаnić, Rаdenko Milаk, Miodrаg Mаnojlović, Mlаden Miljаnović, Nenаd Mаlešević, Igor Bošnjаk, Miroslаv Stаkić, Bojаn Stevаnić, Slobodаn Vidović, and the Tаč.kа Group of Visual Artists (Mlаden Bundаlo, Nemаnjа Čаđo, Dаjаn Špirić, Drаgаn Inđić). These artists do not only live, study and have exhibitions in Banja Luka – or teach at one of the city’s universities, like the author of the project. What also connects them is a strong sense of perseverance needed to create and complete a work of art, the determination to carve out one’s career, and the persistence to hold one’s ground in a community that is not overtly appreciative of contemporary art trends.

The patience of the selected artists, likewise of everybody else on this art scene, is a special form of egalitarianism, which reflects in complex interactions with the artists’ socio-political, historical and cultural context, and is the starting point when creating a work of art. An endless crisis, tumultuous political changes and everyday reality, which increasingly dominate both the public and private spheres, are the key determinants characterising the art more recently created in the region. The new scene, which formed in the last ten years, revealed, while still at an early stage of development, the presence of an extremely potent art practice capable of self-criticism and willing to challenge the main coordinates of personal identity, as well as to scrutinise the social and cultural spheres of the community/environment this art is made in.
