The exhibition “Nаdeždа Petrović: On Both Sides of the Lens” is the result of many years of research of Dr.Sc. Jаsna Jovаnov and reveals a new aspect of the work of the great Serbian painter Nаdežda Petrović.

This exhibition focuses on the photographs taken by the finest Serbian female painter of the modern period to shed light on a lesser-known domain of her work. Nаdežda Petrović’s photographs testify to her special role and importance for Serbian photography, and to the fact she was the first Serbian woman artist who did photography continuously and over a longer period of time.

This exhibition brings together Nаdeždа Petrović’s family photos and those she took as an ardent photographer and which complement her painting. Until 1912 and the breakout of the First Balkans War, she pointed the lens of her camera, which she had bought as a student in Munich, at her family and home. Along with the family shots taken at various times in her life, the visitors can see her work as the first female war photographer in the Balkan Wars and the First World War.
